After being arrested on Sunday, February 22, 2015, a principal of a middle school in the Broward County area of Florida is facing criminal charges. He has also been removed from the school.
The principal of Driftwood Middle School in Hollywood, Florida, Steven J. Williams, was arrested that Sunday in Dania Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The arrest report claimed that deputies rushed to 300 Gulfstream Road at approximately 3:00 that morning after there were reports of a disturbance at the area.
The report went on to state that the deputies stopped a vehicle being operated by Williams after the individual who called 911 yelled, “Stop that car; he’s drunk and his friend attacked one of my guys!”
According to the arrest report, after Williams had exited the car, he pulled his left hand out of his pocket and something fell from his pocket to the ground. That object was reported as being a clear plastic bag that contained a substance that later tested positive for cocaine.
In addition, the deputy who arrested Steven J. Williams reported that the man failed a field sobriety test. The deputy claimed that while speaking to Williams, his words came out slurred and there was a distinct odor of alcohol emanating from his breath that was very noticeable and unmistakable. He stated that he asked the man if he had been drinking to which Williams said, “Yes, sir, but not a real lot.” Williams concluded that he was trying to get his employee and her husband home, according to the report.
The Broward County School District confirmed that it had received information about Williams being arrested following the incident. Officials from the school told CBS4 News that he had subsequently been removed from the school and placed in a different position away from it.
