In the Pembroke Pines area of Florida, a man was recently arrested after allegedly stealing a Fort Lauderdale police cruiser and riding around town with it.
At around 2 AM one night, according to the Pembroke Pines Police Department, officers got a 911 call where the caller reported spotting a stolen police cruiser. Once officers answered the call, they subsequently noticed the cruiser speeding on Palm Avenue and traveling north.
The man made his best attempts at fleeing the police as they gave chase. However, he ended up crashing the vehicle into a light pole at around Pines Boulevard and Southwest 101st Avenue. From there, the suspect ran out of the vehicle and tried to run on foot. Eventually, however, police caught up to him and took him into custody. At this time it would be wise for him to contact a Fort Lauderdale criminal attorney.
7 News obtained video footage that was captured on a witness’ smartphone that showed the chase as it ensued in the early morning hours of that fateful day. The suspect was shortly after identified as a 33 year old man who has a prior record.
Before the man was taken to the police station to be booked in jail, rescue workers took him to Memorial Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation after the crash. Once he was released from the hospital, the police then charged the suspect with a number of traffic violations, theft of a marked police vehicle and fleeing the police.
As previously stated, this was not the first time the man has spent time in jail. According to records, he was arrested a number of times between 2006 and 2012, with a few of his prior offenses including drug possession, aggravated assault with a weapon and burglary.
