Spring break in Fort Lauderdale has scaled down considerably, but some college students continue to gravitate here. Couple too much sun with too much alcohol, and you’ll have a small minority of those partiers arrested and jailed. Any one of the following might be a typical Fort Lauderdale spring break arrest.
Dumb and dumber
One local man tried to run away from a brawl. He ran directly into the side of a police horse. An Indiana woman was charged with hitting a police officer in the back of the head after being dared to do so. Then there was the Connecticut man who spit on a police officer. After being taken into custody, he was alleged to have spat on the plastic partition of the police car before stating that police didn’t know who he is, and he has a good lawyer. That lawyer is probably licensed in Connecticut or New York, but it’s unlikely that he or she is licensed in Florida too.
Arrests are down so far
Between March 1 and March 13 of this spring break season, there have been only 15 arrests and 16 citations written, but the spring break season extends through the end of April, so it’s still early. Police have remarked that so far, nearly all spring breakers have been courteous and well behaved.
